Exodus 34:21 - For six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest. In ploughing time and in harvest you shall rest.

If you are a farmer the time for ploughing and harvest are two very busy seasons of the year. The Lord Jesus said, "The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few;". We are in a time where there is no shortage of things to do in our efforts for Jesus.

But God makes it clear that the command to rest is not based on our schedules (both in ploughing and harvest time). Yes, there are things to do... but you must rest. Sunday is a good day as it's the Sabbath, but for people working hard in churches or other vocations which call for Sunday work such as nurses and doctors... find another day.

Without rest all that's going to happen to you is burn-out. I've been there and it's not clever or pretty.

The weekly call to rest reminds us that our relationship with God is a gift, not something we accomplish. Jesus has done all that is needed for your salvation. So do what the Lord commands... rest in him each week!

Daily Bible Reading: Exodus 20:8-11

Prayer: Father, thank you for the command to rest. Lord, we live in a world full of busyness and many of us find it hard to shut off and relax. Please help us to proportionally rest in you regardless of the tasks we find ourselves drawn too. Amen.
